Penfold and her 5 piece band!
featuring Max Zipursky, Matt Reid, Paul Clark, Vince Mai, Jon Bentley
MAIN STAGE SATURDAY STREET FESTIVAL EVENT :
Saturday June 22 : 12:15pm - included in wristband price $20 advance, $25 at the gate
We are excited to have our own Katherine Penfold, vocals, Max Zipursky, keys, Matt Reid, bass, Paul Clark, drums, Vince Mai, trumpet and Jon Bentley, sax.
Katherine's interest in music began with her introduction to Celtic. Learning her jigs and reels vocally instead of by instrument, Katherine extended her vocal range, uniquely preparing her to fall madly in love with everything Soul, Blues and Jazz by the time she was in her 20's.
Storytelling has always been the passion that drives Katherine; regardless of genre she is able to convey genuine feeling and heartfelt emotions with her lyrics.
Having sold out venues across Central and Western Canada, she has taken the stage with artists like Hugh Laurie, Jeff Lorber, Brad Turner, and Juno nominated bassist Jodi Proznick. Katherine Penfold is a name you want to look for and a show you don't want to miss!

moved to the 'Coast' a few years ago and we feel so fortunate to have

Dan was a highly energetic child who found his calling at the trap set. Mentored by two consummate polyrhythmic masters, Joe Morello and Alan Dawson, he was working professionally before he finished his teens.
Over the years Dan was featured on nearly a dozen albums with his father, and toured widely with the Dave Brubeck Quartet, including many appearances with the world's leading orchestras.
This year for something very special, Dan is teaming up with another one of the Coast's favourite's, Miles Black on piano. Miles is highly acclaimed and sought after as an arranger, producer, composer, session musician, guitarist, vocalist, bassist, saxophonist, songwriter, and musical theatre director. "Taking vintage blues and jazz, swing,
old-timey country and folk as their templates, this super-cool duo pens
authentic sounding material that appears as if plucked from the Alan Lomax
archives, but also bears the gritty qualities of their punk rock background."
-David Morrison of Folk Radio Uk's Top ten albums of 2017
The Burying Ground formed in 2014 as a duo, but Woody Forster and Devora Laye have been playing together since 2009 as members of The Dire Wolves, an acoustic blues string band and darlings of the East Van punk scene. They are steeped in influences from 1920’s Ragtime, Country & Western, Mississippi Blues and New Orleans Jazz. At home, on the road and in the studio Devora and Woody are often accompanied by a rotating cast of masterful session and backing musicians and for the festival we are very lucky to have Wynston and Clara in this fabulous outdoor venue.
